The unique Battlestar Galactica was fundamentally a show about some 50,000 people surviving soon after their household planets have been wiped out. Given that the finale implies the Colonials will be introducing language (presumably with producing) and farming but these kinds of items didn't display up for a further 100,000 decades, there is even extra help for the notion that items didn't go quite perfectly.
