You've probably seen a few dozen of these in the parking lot at the Big Box store. Their conversations are peppered with words and terms you've never heard before, including "tree stands." You pipe up and ask if a tree stand is that odd contraption you've seen in some of the trees. Make sure to place your stand in a part of the tree with lots of natural cover, like thick branches and limbs. Climbing sticks make it easier for hunters to go up and down trees to and from their stands by providing small steps on the trunk of the tree. The more gear you bring, the more noise you'll likely make. In more wooded areas, the higher the stand, the more your scent and visibility will decrease. When you are walking around in the woods looking for the perfect spot to put a tree stand, don't be tempted to use someone else's permanent stand. When setting up your tree stand, be sure to attach your stand to a tree that will be able to support you and your gear.
