A savvy Australian mum has revealed a trick to cut down on food wastage and give herself a free extra meal each week. Sharing details of her trick on Facebook, the woman explained how she has a 'Needs Using Up Basket' in her fridge.
This is a plastic basket which is reserved for various odds and ends of food she doesn't want to throw away. 'Half an onion, tomatoes, half a sweet potato, sausage, wrinkly capsicum, whatever!' she wrote alongside photos showing a full basket inside her fridge. Scroll down for video
Always a big hit with the family. 'Leftover bits of chicken or ham go in, plus veg and cheese.'

Another woman wrote that she 'loved the idea' as she had recently started meal prepping for her family. 'omg omg маркетплейс, I can't believe how much gets used now and not a lot of waste.' A third said she was 'stealing this idea for the warmer months'. 'In winter I make an end of the week soup to use everything up but didn't know what to do with them in the warmer weather,' she posted.
