This is just our first article in a series of how we use our company's PCB Prototype Service. In this one we'll talk about why it is so important to have the video so that you can communicate with others at a glance. Our team uses a variety of portable video recorders to make sure that they are able to capture everything that is going on and give us a detailed overview of what has happened. We need to be able to document what is happening so that when other people on the team see something on their monitor they can identify it. For instance, when someone places the final touches on the LCD screen they want to be able to look at the LCD screen to verify that everything is perfect. If they cannot verify that everything is working correctly then they have the ability to call us on the spot to verify things and we can go over the video recording to make sure that we have not missed anything.


The first time we had a prototype board made we did not have the camera or the LCD screen so we relied upon our manual camera view. When we put together the Raspberry Pi 2 we had two different people that were working on different sides of the assembly. Their job was to feed the wire from the camera up to the first circuit board where the raspberry pie and all of the circuits were soldered in. Their job also included testing the connections between the raspberry pie and the other electronics on the board. Their job also included placing the circuits back onto the board. All of these actions verified that everything was working correctly.


The second time we had a PCB prototype produced we utilized a high end computer A/S which had an LCD screen, a good camera and a very nice matte black is gaining popularity as a replacement for the colored board. We also utilized a wireless connection between the computer and the raspberry pie. Everything was wired up with nice labels so that it would be easy to find the circuits. This was a great way to ensure that everything would work properly but it was still a matter of the software being available and the proper programming for the programming source code. Without this the raspberry pi and other electronics on the board would not be able to communicate with one another.


Next is the Sk882 which has been a favorite amongst the engineers here in Chicago. These little guys are pretty compact and can fit into a shirt pocket. They are about 10% thinner than the old ones we had. What's really great about them is that they are compatible with the Bluetooth wireless technology coming out soon. It makes for easier connections and also means that if you don't want to use your laptop while driving you can wear this one beneath your seat to make sure that nobody else sees what you are doing. Well, that and the fact that it is only 0.6 inches thick.


Last are the JLC PCB Black and White solder mask. This is an extremely well made product and can easily replace the old standard brown plastic solder mask. The white and black combination is an attractive feature that we have come to appreciate over the years. There are two sets of clear ole stickers that make a great accent on the top and bottom. The standard JLC Pcb Prototype Service Review has the two top labels on the right hand side but I have noticed that the new ones do not have the standard label and are in two unique shades.
