A. Persistent and recurrent problematic playing behavior leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as indicated by the person exhibiting 4 (or more) of the next in a 12month period:
a. Must gamble with rising amounts of cash so as to attain the specified excitement.
b. Is restless or irritable when trying to chop down or cease playing.
c. Has made repeated unsuccessful efforts to manage, reduce back, or stop playing.
d. Is usually preoccupied with playing (e.g., having persistent ideas of reliving previous playing
experiences, handicapping or planning the subsequent enterprise, thinking of the way to get money with
which to gamble).
e. Usually gambles when feeling distressed (e.g., helpless, guilty, anxious, depressed).
f. After shedding money gambling, usually returns one other day to get even ("chasing" one’s losses).
g. Lies to conceal the extent of involvement with playing.
h. Has jeopardized or lost a significant relationship, job, or educational or career opportunity
because of gambling.
i. Depends on others to offer cash to relieve desperate monetary situations caused by gambling.
