Ivan Gudets (July 10, 1947, Nitra) – Slovak writer, playwright, author of literary works for children and youth. From December 13, 1994 to October 30, 1998 he was the Minister of Culture of Slovakia. He was a member of the Movement for Democratic Slovakia (the party no longer exists).
Biography
He studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University of Bratislava. In the same period, he became one of the founders of the student theater of small stage forms „Theater at Roland", where he was simultaneously the author of productions, director, actor and organizer. After graduation, he worked as a doctor in the cities of Zilina, Bratislava and Chadtsa, and later again worked in Bratislava as deputy director of the State Sanatorium. After the year 1989 he began to engage in politics, in 1992 he was a candidate for the parliament of Slovakia, since 1994 he was a deputy, and in 1994-1998 – the Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
Creation
Ivan Gudets writes novels and short stories in which he talks about marital problems, the history of Slovakia, or returns to the issues of the medical field in which he worked. He is also the author of grotesques and mystical stories. Ivan Gudets also writes plays for the theater.
