James Allen Crockett Jr. (English James Allen Crockett Jr., August 10, 1944 – March 3, 2021) – Former wrestling promoter. From 1973 to 1988, he owned Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP), wrestling companies affiliated with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). From 1976 to 1987, he also owned the Charlotte Knights, a Minor League Baseball team based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Career

Childhood

Born to Jim Crockett and Elizabeth Crockett in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jim Jr. graduated from Myers Park High School in his hometown in 1960. He and his younger siblings (David, Jackie, and Francis) were heavily involved in wrestling until their father died in 1973. The elder Crockett has been an organizer of wrestling events and other entertainment since 1931 (under him JCP joining the NWA in 1950).

Acceptance of Jim Crockett Promotions

Although Jim Crockett Sr. wanted his son-in-law John Ringley to run JCP, Jim Jr. reluctantly took over the company. Crockett brought in wrestler George Scott as his chief booker and signed wrestlers from all over the country, from veterans like Wahoo McDaniel to young wrestlers like Rick Flair.

Crockett sells the company to Ted Turner

Since November 1988, Crockett was on the verge of bankruptcy and, through promoter Jim Barnett, sold his company to Ted Turner, who renamed it World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Crockett remained president of WCW until 1991.

After wrestling

Since his retirement from wrestling, Crockett has worked as a realtor in Texas and took out mortgages.
