Lucius Laberius Maximus (lat.Lucius Laberius Maximus; died after 84) – statesman and politician of Ancient Rome in the 2nd half of the 1st century.

Biography

Lucius came from the plebeian clan of Laberia, which rose only in the era of the Empire; his alleged father could be a magistrate during the reign of the emperor Claudius, who bore the same name and belonged to the equestrian class. About his civilian career, it is only known that about 83 he served as the prefect in Egypt, after which he immediately became the head of the Imperial Praetorian Guard (84). Apparently, before taking these curule positions, Lucius at one time was the prefect of annona (lat.Praefectus annonae – the magistrate responsible for the timely delivery of grain to Rome), since it was this state post that provided the natives of horsemen with the opportunity to achieve higher positions in Empire.

Descendants

Married to an unknown woman, he had at least one son, who became a consul-suffect in 89, and later ruled Moesia. When Hadrian came to power in Rome, the son of Lucius was expelled due to suspicions of a conspiracy. Through his son, he was the grandfather of Laberia, Hostilia Crispine, the wife of the 139-year consul Guy Bruttia Prezenta, whose daughter was married to Commodus.
