Ironically, if you want to draw a really good salary in this field, become specialized in either infrastructure or backend systems, then enter the field - you'll easily make double. If you want yours to be hot, try to be in control. "Who do you want dead? Assigned meaningless jobs. I've never seen this happen in tech, but I'm aware of it in other fields. Not very common in tech, and you get paid unemployment anyway.
