Munoz said the automaker has already built vehicles suitable for flying that can sit five to six passengers and zip around for short-distance flights. Even if we do get flying taxis in just seven years, they won't be ready to nab you from home and tack you to your buddy's house a few miles away. Still, Hyundai and Uber look to the future with bright eyes when it comes to flying taxis. Instead, they may be able to pick up passengers from urban or suburban locations and then fly off to a major Toronto airport taxi airport. He doesn't envision the aircraft as a vehicle to go everywhere, though.

As Hyundai continues to work with Uber on the technology, Jose Munoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, believes we're closing in on liftoff, according to remarks Reuters reported on Monday. Hyundai isn't the only company or automaker to toss its hat into the ring to bring flying taxis to life, but it might be the most bullish.

Munoz told media during an Automotive Press Association teleconference that Hyundai foresees air taxis taking to city skylines in Los Angeles and New York City by 2028, or "maybe earlier." Hyundai declined to comment further when asked about the executive's remarks.

Two of his teammates - freshmen Tre Jones and Cameron Reddish - also aren't playing on the tour due to injuries. O'Connell was hurt in the first quarter of Duke's victory over Ryerson on Wednesday night.

It's a bullish timeline for a technology that, 1, is hardly ready for primetime yet, Toronto airport taxi and 2, sits beyond a wall of red tape. We've got a long way to go, just like self-driving car technology. City regulation is nowhere near ready to a big increase in the number of small aircraft zipping around skylines.

And Deutsche Bahn, Germany's rail operator, has invested in Berlin startup CleverShuttle.  CleverShuttle Moia isn't the only company wanting to serve the "last mile" of transportation using pooled rides in EVs. In Berlin, US-based Via has partnered with the city's public transit operator on its BerlK_nig ride-share service.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL Health Canada considers letting e-cigarette companies promote the health benefits of their products to the public, despite the growing number of young Canadians who vape and Toronto airport taxi mounting questions about the long-term risks.

Instead, CleverShuttle buys vehicles like the Nissan Evalia, and it even operates some hydrogen fuel-cell-powered cars like the Toyota Mirai.  Like Moia, CleverShuttle owns all of its cars and employs its drivers full time with benefits like health insurance and paid vacation. But unlike Moia, its vehicles aren't specially designed for the company.

It gave up on Frankfurt after negotiating over a license for a year, and it left Stuttgart because its license allowed it to operate only 10 cars, not nearly enough to turn a profit. In Hamburg, CleverShuttle was "welcomed with really open arms," Adlassnigg said. But it could only operate 50 cars, about half the amount Moia was initially granted. That wasn't enough to help it compete with other transit companies that offered lower fares.

"On-demand mobility services are often too expensive for everyday use, and current ride-hailing solutions for sharing aren't optimal because personal space is compromised," said Brian Solis, an independent digital analyst at his own firm. "This creates an opportunity for ride-sharing services that solve for the 'last mile' or 'last kilometer.'"

Right on time, a big, golden van pulls up in front of me, and the side door opens. But rather than Uber or Lyft, I quickly open an app called Moia. "Shara?" the driver says as I take a seat in a sleek cream-colored seat and take in my surroundings. It tells me to cross the street and my driver will arrive in nine minutes.

Instead of making you walk to a designated meeting spot, CleverShuttle will pick you up from your starting point and drop you off directly at your destination. It would have even more cars if national law allowed (Germany has strict ride-sharing laws and regulations for drivers) -- and if it could actually get them from automakers.  It has 1,400 drivers and operates 350 vehicles.
