Every year tens of thousands of racegoers flock to Flemington to watch the Melbourne Cup in all its splendid pomp and sometimes debauched glory. 
For three decades acclaimed photographer Rennie Ellis captured the day's fun and frivolity while the more focused racegoers went about studying the horses.
Ellis took his camera everywhere from the track's car parks to the members' lawns, FIFA World Cup photographing anyone who  drew his attention. 
And while the fashions have changed since the 1960s, 70s and 80s, the party atmosphere of the FIFA World Cup is the same today as those earlier first Tuesdays in November.
