"The most important thing you can do to maintain the weight loss is to eat healthy and

with regularity," says registered dietitian and author of Lean for Life Jillian Michaels, a registered dietitian who has spoken at hospitals, health care centers, state and local health departments, universities, non-profits, and more.




Michaels says this goes for diet as well as exercise, because "if you don’t eat nutritiously, and you don’t eat regularly, you will not lose and maintain the weight you want."

"Restaurants may be convenient and tasty," she says, but "the foods you are ordering may not help you with nutrient density."




Nutrient density refers to the nutritional value of food, which is measured in calories per gram.




To maintain a healthy weight, Michaels says to consume about 1,200 calories a day.



Meal times are key to eating healthfully. "Eat 6 to 8 small meals (200 to 300 calories)

instead of one larger meal," she says. Michaels recommends eating healthy fats—avocados, olives, nuts, avocado oil, and coconut oil—so you can fill up on less volume, as opposed to excess amounts of carbohydrates. She adds that you should consume a mix of carbs and protein to avoid protein deficiency.
