The most successful dieters are those who eat at a certain time and then exercise at another, says the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. "Why? Because it gives you a natural biological signal," says Lisa Moskovitz, a professor at NYU Langone Health’s School of Medicine who studies circadian rhythms.



"We want our bodies to be able to get a cue of when we’re supposed to exercise," says Moskovitz.

How to Choose a Weight Loss Routine



The benefit of exercising consistently at a single time is that it gives your body a cue as to when you’re supposed to exercise. Moskovitz says while other factors could lead you to exercise at different times, among weight loss advice, she’s seen a growing number of people are trying to do it at the same time each day.


While you can mix up the time of day if you want, here’s the main reasons experts say you’ll be more successful with one time of day.



For starters, it’s because we’re not meant to be at our best at all hours of the day.

"We start to feel best to exercise at our ‘breakfast hour,’" she says. "That’s when the cortisol levels are lowest. That’s when we’re most focused and not focused on anything. And it’s easier to exercise at that time when you know the cortisol is low."
