Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott criticized President Joe Biden on Sunday for being 'slow to react' to multiple crises including a southern border crisis, sky-high inflation and a baby formula shortage that's already sent multiple children to the hospital. It comes as a new poll suggests Americans are still wary with Democrats' handling of the economy - while nearly seven in 10 voters think the US financial system is in dire straits. 'I think those numbers are consistent with what we've seen, that inflation is still the number one issue in the country and the president is slow to react, whether it's the border, whether it's inflation, whether it's gas prices, even Ukraine,' Scott told CBS News Face The Nation host Margaret Brennan. The senator predicted consumer prices - which rose 8.5 percent in April, according to the most recently available data - would take center stage in November's midterm elections that will decide which party controls Congress for the latter half of Biden's term. 'I think the election this fall is going to be about inflation. It's going to be about the effectiveness of the Biden administration,' said Scott, who is in charge of Senate Republicans' campaign arm. He added: 'And I think it bodes well for Republicans.' If his prediction is true, then Republicans would have a lot to look forward to.
Among a list of issues facing the country, respondents to the newest CBS News/YouGov poll said they trust Republicans more than Democrats on the economy and inflation.
