Igor Nikolaevich Yablokov (January 15, 1936, Shuya, Ivanovo region, USSR) – a famous Soviet and Russian religious scholar, sociologist of religion. Doctor of Philosophy, Professor and Head (1988-2020) of the Department of Philosophy of Religion and Religious Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Author and editor of a number of textbooks, teaching aids, monographs, articles and dictionaries on academic religious studies published in Russia and other countries.

Member of the Expert Council for the State Religious Expertise under the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

Biography

Born on January 15, 1936 in the city of Shuya, Ivanovo region. His father was a history teacher, his mother was a biology teacher.

In 1959 he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov Moscow State University with a degree in Philosophy and entered the graduate school of this university. During his postgraduate studies, he worked as head of the cabinet of political economy and Marxism-Leninism at the Lipetsk branch of the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, as well as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Dialectical and Historical Materialism of the Humanities Faculties of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov.

In 1965, at the Department of History and Theory of Religion and Atheism, Faculty of Philosophy, Moscow State University, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of philosophical sciences on the topic „On the nature of religious and moral feelings." Since 1965 he has been working at the Faculty of Philosophy. He taught religious studies at a number of faculties of Moscow State University. At the same time he worked at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University in the positions of a junior researcher, senior researcher, senior lecturer, associate professor.

In 1977 he defended his doctoral dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the topic „Methodological problems of the sociology of religion."

In 1980 he received the academic title of professor at Moscow State University.

From 1988 to 2020 – Head of the Department of Philosophy of Religion and Religious Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, Lomonosov Moscow State University.

In 1996 he received the honorary title „Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation".

Since 1996, he has been the head of the Department of Religious Studies at the Philosophical Faculty of Moscow State University, „to the creation of which he made a great contribution."

Since 2001 – member of the editorial board of the scientific and theoretical journal „Religious Studies".

Published over 300 scientific papers, including 9 books; is a co-author and editor of textbooks and teaching aids, dictionaries, fundamental research works, his works were published in our country and abroad. The author of the final vocabulary of the Atheistic Dictionary.

Consulting in the preparation of 8 doctoral dissertations, 38 persons defended their candidate dissertations under his supervision.

He was a member of the Expert Advisory Council on Freedom of Conscience under the Committee for Public Associations and Religious Organizations of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, and then became a member of the Council for Conducting State Religious Expertise under the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

Currently, he is the head of the Department of Philosophy of Religion and Religious Studies at Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov, Chairman of the Dissertation Council on the Philosophy of Religion and Ethics, a member of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation on Philosophical and Sociological Sciences, a member of the Educational and Methodological Association for Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies of the Ministry of General and Professional Education.

By order of the Minister of Justice of Russia dated March 3, 2009, he was introduced to the new composition of the Council for Conducting State Religious Expertise under the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

Full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, member of the Philosophical Society of Russia, member of the Presidium of the Educational and Methodological Association for Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies, member of the Council for Relations with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation. At the time of 2009, he was a lecturer of courses „Introduction to the Specialty", „Philosophy of Religion", „Sociology of Religion" and special courses at the Department of Religious Studies. In Yablokov’s research activities, an important area of __scientific activity is the metatheory of religious studies.
