Issus (lat.) is a genus of isoptera cicada insects from the Issidae family (Fulgoroidea, Homoptera). More than 30 types.

Description
Forewings without hypocostal plate. Metope (forehead) in the upper part with a horizontal transverse keel. The body shape is compact, the head is short and wide. The wings are developed, the elytra are dense, short. The legs are short and strong. Among the host plants on which they develop are noted: Alnus sp. (Fagales, Betulaceae), Artemisia sp. (Asterales, Asteraceae), Corylus avellana L. (Betulaceae), Quercus (Fagaceae), Salix sp. (Malpighiales, Salicaceae).
The species Issus coleoptratus a cogwheel was found in the limbs and as a result, this leafhopper was named the "invertebrate of the year" by Science magazine (2013).
