|FAFOUL| or 'meddler' in Brussels dialect, is Gilles Grossen and Renaud Arents' music project.
|FAFOUL| is the result of a friendship between Gilles and Renaud that originated in the Marolles-neighbourhood. During their adolescence, they each took their separate way but quickly found each other again to notice that they both had a similar story: a degree in social work and one common passion, music.
Renaud, being a multi-instrumentalist and a composer, has written and arranged all the songs for the first |FAFOUL| album. He is a musician and has been composing music for several project for years. Professionally, he is a social worker and has coordinated projects related to interculturality, youth work, poverty and citizen participation in Belgium and abroad (Spain, Palestine).
Gilles has gained experience as a lyricist and composer for the Belgian rap band OZMOSE. He writes and interprets all songs of the first |FAFOUL| album. He is also a social worker and has experience in different domains (housing, health and welfare, social cohesion, etc.).
The album "STOU!" will be released in September 2019. It is an eclectic album in its music styles as well as the themes the songs address. From pop-rock, to afrobeat, hip hop or even a waltz, the compositions are simple so that the songs can reach a maximum number of people. The themes are a reflection of issues that move and drive them personally and professionally: the Belgian colonisation of the Congo, gender identity, our relation to the economic system, Palestine or climate challenges. In spite of the fact that they are polyglot and have foreign roots, they consciously chose to sing in French; their native language.
"STOU!" aims to bring a collective dimension to specific topics and issues. The album has been fully auto produced, with logistical help from 'Nomad's Prod' and numerous enthusiasts from the artistic and associative domain.
