The gardens are enclosed by tall wire safety fences. Its front backyard is enclosed with a short wire fence and is dominated by a large spreading Poinciana tree. A brief verandah with vertical timber louvres is located on the bottom flooring of the japanese elevation. Female Wards 1&2 (1866) is a large, two-storeyed timber and masonry building situated on a ridge between Ellerton Drive and the Brisbane River. Lewis House is situated between Kelsey House and McDonnell House and is a substantial two-storeyed rendered masonry constructing with a terracotta-tiled roof. It is also two-storeyed and constructed of masonry but is extra rectangular in plan with three short wings projecting on the western elevation. The 4 wings of every building contain dormitories and single rooms. The eastern part of every constructing is an elongated U-shape in plan, with two substantial rear wings working at proper angles to the U. The eastern elevations have floor ground verandahs which have sheet steel obstacles erected alongside the roofs to forestall patients from climbing onto them. A large timber verandah with a skillion roof runs the size of the north elevation at both ranges and returns around at both the eastern and western ends of the constructing.


Bostock House (1885) is located to the north of Anderson House and is also orientated to face Ellerton Drive, although it is ready again within in depth lawns. The Female Area comprises Female Wards 1&2, Anderson House, Bostock House, Dawson House and a former female bathroom. A small timber residence is situated to the south of Anderson House. A small Shelter Shed (1929) is situated to the south of Female Wards 1&2 and was used to separate troublesome patients from the main wards. The formal parterre to the south of the house is one among the largest in Europe at 4 acres (16,000 m2). In December the home and 163 acres within the fences was leased to John Hosking for 3 years, a lease settlement requiring him to maintain "the park, gardens, orangeries, vineyard and buildings, fencing, hedges, ditches, gates, bridges, stiles, rails, poles, posts and drains in good and ample order". It has a timber verandah with a skillion roof along the entrance elevation and has tall sash home windows all through. A tall timber picket fence encloses the yard adjacent to the shed.
