Hellraiser 5: Inferno (English Hellraiser: Inferno) – American horror film, the sequel to the movie „Hellraiser". The film was directed by Scott Derrickson in 2000. The first film in the cycle, in the creation of which Clive Barker did not participate, and which was released on DVD immediately after filming.

Plot

Detective Joseph Thorne investigates the mysterious murder of his classmate Jay Cho. At the scene of the crime, he finds a strange box and a child’s finger (fingers then appear at the scene of each murder).

In his spare time, the detective is having fun in the motel with the prostitute Daphne. In the bathroom, he opens the box and finds himself in a strange place, where he meets with cenobites. In the morning, Joseph thinks that this is just a nightmare, but at work Daphne calls him and asks for help. Back at the motel, the detective finds the girl hanged from a hook in the bathroom. To deflect suspicion, Joseph leaves there an empty cigarette pack with the fingerprints of his partner, Tony Ninonin.

Thorne’s first investigation leads him to a piercing parlor. From the master, he learns about a certain Engineer, with whom Jay Cho had some common business. Joseph goes to his informant, the drug dealer Bernie, whom he is covering, and demands information from him about the Engineer. Bernie at first refuses to answer, but after the beating he tells everything that he knows and promises to find out the details.

Ninonin strongly suggests informing the management about Daphne, and in response, Joseph talks about the things of his partner that were found at the crime scene. Tony realizes that Joseph set him up and is forced to remain silent. Soon, the detective receives a videotape in which a faceless cenobite brutally kills Bernie. But when Joseph decides to show the tape to his colleagues, the cassette is empty. However, Bernie is found murdered exactly as it was on the tape. From the record on the dealer’s answering machine, Thorn learns a new address – Parmaji’s gambling house. However, there he is severely beaten and told that he is playing the game of the Engineer.

The beaten Thorne seeks help from Dr. Paul Gregory, a psychologist and Episcopal priest. Mentioning Lemarshan’s box and cenobites, the doctor tells him about another detective who also investigated the case of the Engineer, but, unable to catch the criminal, committed suicide.

At home, Joseph learns from his wife that someone came to his mother. The detective rushes to his mother and father in the nursing home, and there he is visited by terrible visions. Waking up, Thorne realizes that he is at home, but his wife again informs him about the mother’s call. In the nursing home, Joseph does not find his parents, but notices his father’s bloody bed, next to which he discovers a new message from the Engineer with the address.

Arriving at the indicated place, the detective sees how in the house on the other side of the street the cenobite kills his partner Tony. At this time, a call rings, and Joseph learns that there will be four more murders, after which a voice in the telephone receiver advises Thorne to go home. Once there, the detective sees the bodies of his wife and daughter, hanging on a pole with nails. Dr. Gregory also turns up here and informs him that, as the police found out, the child’s fingerprints belong to Detective Joseph Thorne.

The doctor invites the detective to go to his childhood home. There he sees himself as a child, and his parents as young. The parents then age instantly and try to kill Joseph. He barely manages to escape, after which the detective sees Daphne, Bernie and Tony, who also try to kill him. Suddenly, the Cenobites appear, led by Pinhead. Seeing the Engineer among them, Joseph tries to shoot him, but Pinhead immobilizes him. At this moment, the Engineer rips the skin off his head, and the detective sees himself in him. Pinhead explains to the shocked Joseph that during the capture of the Engineer, he did not catch the criminal, but revealed the dark side of his own personality: by indulging in base desires in the past, Thorne took the path of vice, causing suffering to his family and friends with his actions, and now he will have to pay for it.

After that, the detective wakes up again in the motel bathroom next to the casket. Believing that everything is in order, Joseph calmly drives to work, but there Daphne calls him again. In desperation, the detective commits suicide, but after that he finds himself in the motel bathroom once again. The nightmare turns out to be endless.
