Takao Saito (Japanese _ _ __, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Saito: Takao) – mangaka and author of gekigi, whose most famous work remains Golgo 13… His manga is also popular. Kage gari (1969) and Barom one (1970). In 2010, the mangaka was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, IV degree.

Biography

Saito is originally from Wakayama Prefecture and has lived in Osaka since the 1950s. At school, he was the best in drawing lessons, and planned to take up professional boxing. In high school I went to a sumo club.

In high school, influenced by the American films King Kong and War of the Worlds, he decided to become a manga artist. First professional job Baron air (_ _ __) was published in 1955. In 1958, Takao Saito moved to Tokyo, where he organized the Gekigi Studio (_ _ __ gekiga ko: bo) together with a number of other artists (Masahiko Matsumoto, Masaru Sakurai, Sumumu Mon, Tsu Motomi, etc.). In 1958, Yoshihiro Tatsumi, Shinji Nagashima, and Saito and their colleagues sent a letter to Osama Tezuka inviting him to the Gekigi Factory; Tezuka, however, called gekigu „anti-manga" and reacted negatively to her, although he later began to draw in a similar style.

The gekigi studio existed until 1960. In April 1960, Saito created Saito Production, which currently has 19 employees. Since January 1969 in the magazine Big comic comes out Golgo 13, one of the longest manga in Japan. For her, the author was awarded the Shogakukan Publishing Prize in 1976. Since 1971 he has been giving lessons in manga drawing.
