Burguy (Bur. B_rge) – ulus (village) in the Zakamensk region of Buryatia, the administrative center of the rural settlement „Burguyskoye".

Geography

Located on the northern side of the P440 highway (Dzhidinsky tract), 45 km east of the regional center – the city of Zakamensk. The distance to the city of Ulan-Ude by road is 369 km.

It is located in a narrow valley, mostly on the slopes of two mountains.

History and name

The founders of the Burgui ulus (17th century) were people from the Hoiho clan with a leader Burgad habarta baatar („Bator with eagle’s claws")…

When the Zakamensk region was formed, 16 families lived in the Burgui area, the rest of the families lived in the vicinity. Since 1928, the process of uniting these families into artels began.

In 1930, a school was opened in the ulus, in connection with this, more and more people from remote farms began to move to Burgui. In 1935, the Lenin collective farm was formed with the center in the Burgui ulus. In 1936, a village club and a paramedic station were built.

In 1940, new residential buildings, a collective farm office, a kindergarten and a bathhouse began to be built in Burgue. By 1955, there were already about 100 households in Burgue. In 1973 a new building of the House of Culture was built. In 1984 a new kindergarten building was built. In 1989, a new school was erected using the people’s construction method. ATS was built in 1995.
