LinkedIn: Send messages to people you're connected with, like, "Hey Siri, send a LinkedIn message to John that says, 'Great meeting today.'"
The Roll: This app lets you easily find photos using keywords. So you can say, "Hey Siri, show me my best photos of idyllic sunsets taken last summer using The Roll."
With third-party support added to Siri, you can send messages to your friends and family using any application that adds it. WhatsApp, for example, has immediate Siri support with iOS 10. Here are some sample commands:
"Tell Melissa I'll be there in 5 minutes with WhatsApp."
"Send a WeChat to John saying, 'Are we still on for tomorrow?'"
"Let John know I'm running a few minutes late in Skype."
You can call for an Uber or Lyft without ever needing to go into the app. Just cue up Siri and say, "Order a Lyft" or, "Order me an Uber." We haven't tested it at the time of this writing, so it's unclear how much you'll need to do in the app before you confirm your ride.
This means the way you interact with Siri is getting a little more hands-off. It's working in the background, and you don't need to physically cue up the voice assistant to get suggestions.
Siri for CarPlay is arguably the most useful implementation of the voice assistant. From your car, you can currently queue up Siri with a button on the steering wheel and issue commands to it just as you would from your phone or Mac. You can ask for directions to a location, send a message to your friend or even create reminders and calendar entries.
With the coming updates, however, CarPlay will receive all the same Siri updates as the other devices. What that means is third-party support, putting some of the control of CarPlay into the hands of your car's manufacturer. In other words, you will be able adjust climate control and tune the radio with your voice, among other things, such as playing music with Spotify or sending a message through WhatsApp.
Editor's note, September 12: This story was originally published on June 16, 2016 and has since been updated to add new information apps specific apps that will have Siri support.
