Emmerdale beat EastEnders as the two rival soaps went head-to-head after a major TV schedule reshuffle.
ITV's Emmerdale and BBC's EastEnders both aired in the 7.30pm slot, with Emmerdale pulling in 4.2million viewers while EastEnders had an audience of 2.6m in the overnight figures.
However, Coronation Street came out on top overall, drawing in 4.4m viewers for its hour-long slot on ITV1 at 8pm.

Speaking about the schedule change, John Whiston, ITV's Managing Director of Continuing Drama said: 'With Coronation Street bursting at the seams with fantastic story and character, the new format gives the show a brilliant new canvas on which to shine.
'And Emmerdale will do what it does best in this new time slot where viewers can continue to enjoy the dramatic goings on in the Dales.'
ITV's Managing Director Kevin Lygo said in a statement: 'As viewing habits rapidly change, live audiences to our national and international news programmes remain remarkably strong.

EastEnders itself has been through a bit of a shake-up after the seventh star in the last year announced they were quitting.
Stevie Basaula, who plays Isaac Baptiste and was known for his on-screen relationship with Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), has already filmed his final scenes. 
Cast member Zack Morris, 23, who plays Keegan Baker, also revealed he was leaving the soap last month.

The news comes just months after co-star and on-screen wife Maisie Smith, 20, also announced her departure from EastEnders, after 13 years on the show













The news was announced via the EastEnders official social media accounts, with bosses of the BBC drama noting Keegan will depart Walford later this year.

Maisie, who played Tiffany Butcher, reportedly left after getting a number of big money offers for other projects - following her stint on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2020.
