Australia white-ball captain Aaron Finch is confident he won't have any problems dusting off the cobwebs ahead of his side's three-match ODI series against Pakistan, starting in Lahore on Tuesday night (AEDT).

Finch hasn't played an ODI match since December 2, 2020 when he scored 75 in a 13-run loss to India.

The 35-year-old won't be the only rusty player given that Australia played just three ODI matches last year - a 2-1 series victory in the West Indies in July.

The powerful right-hander, who captained Australia to a 4-1 T20 series victory over Sri Lanka last month, is confident he won't have any trouble switching to ODI mode.

"I don't think that's too much of an issue," Finch said.

"ODI cricket out of the three formats is probably the easiest one to be able to fit back into quicker.

"There's enough time there to be able to get yourself into the game with bat and ball, whereas T20 cricket can be a little bit more frantic, and Test cricket can test every part of your game straight away.

"I'm not too concerned about it. I'm really looking forward to starting this series and playing cricket in Pakistan for the first time in my career."

Stars Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and David Warner have been rested for the three ODIs and one-off T20 match, while Mitch Marsh (hip) and Steve Smith (elbow) are injured.

Glenn Maxwell is another big name that is missing.

Finch said it was a good opportunity for others to step up and start presenting their case for selection for the 50-over World Cup in 2023.

Allrounder Cam Green will replace Marsh in the XI for game one against Pakistan, while Marnus Labuschagne is a chance to fill the void left by Smith.

"I think every decision that we're making at the moment in terms of selection of squad and teams has one eye towards that 2023 World Cup, because it's about building that depth in the squad, and building the experience of players," Finch said.
