The region is around two hour drive from 20 million potential Amazon customers.  The areas where employees are expected to be most scarce include the Inland Empire, California, an hour and a half east of Los Angeles.

You can get them in three colors: Classic Black, Horizon Blue and Modern Tortoise. And they can come with a variety of lenses including blue-light filtering lenses, polarized sunglass lenses with UV400 protection and even prescription lenses, if needed. The frames are lightweight and designed for all-day wear.



Apple isn't being completely altruistic, as the move is part of a settlement with the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTP), applying to apps that 'do not offer in-app digital goods and services for purchase'.



However, Apple will still take a cut of any money made from sales within the app - so if Netflix offers a way to subscribe in-app, they will pay Apple a cut, but this will offer an alternative, that includes access to existing payment details.

When we tested them side-by-side last year, Google's Nest Mini boasted slightly superior sound to the third-gen Echo Dot, and this time around, the new Dot just edges past the Mini. If you're listening to acoustic music, such as Bon Iver's "Re: Stacks," at 50% volume, the speaker boasts warm tones, solid track distinction and good balance.

Anyone can sign up as one of these third-party dealers if they are able to set up an Amazon seller account - though the online giant typically gets 15 per cent of the proceeds from sales. Although Amazon sells books directly there is also an option to buy 'new' and 'used' from other sellers if they also have copies available, which can often be found on website links below a description of the literature.

Even below the high volumes, the track loses distinction, becoming fairly muddy behind the clean vocals. Playing a song like "This Life," by Vampire Weekend, with distinct bass, guitar, vocal and drum tracks, quickly falls into messy noise at any volume above 80%. Of course, everything is relative.





2018's third-gen Echo Dot has been one of the best smart speakers in the short history of smart speakers. Its combination of a clever voice assistant and impressive hardware packed into a tiny device with an even tinier price made it wildly and understandably popular (in sheer number of buyer reviews, it dwarfs every other Echo device on Amazon's online store).

The standard carry-on costs $275, but if you want to include a USB charger for charging a phone while on the go, then it's an extra $20. And if you want to add on a personalized luggage tag with their initials, it's another $10.

Ditto setting up surround sound for your home theater. Two Echo Dots can still be paired for stereo sound, but I can't imagine recommending this over buying a better quality $100 speaker, like the Nest Audio or 2020 Echo.

This is not a speaker that will envelop you in music, but it's useful for casual listening nonetheless -- and at least marginally better than the current Nest Mini and third-gen Echo Dot. That said, though some of the novelty has worn off, it's still worth standing in awe of what companies like Amazon and Google have accomplished in such an affordable product.
