Second Krestovsky lane – a small street in the center of Moscow in the Meshchansky District of the Central Administrative District between Prospekt Mira (near Riga Square) and Bolshaya Pereyaslavskaya Street. In the lane there is the Temple of the Icon of the Sign of the Mother of God in the Pereyaslavskaya Sloboda.

Story

This is the only remaining of the three previously existing Krestovskiy lanes. So they were named in 1922 after the former Krestovskaya outpost of the Kamer-Kollezhsky Val. The outpost (formerly called Troitskaya) received its name in the 18th century from the chapel standing near it, where since 1652 there was a cross (erected in honor of the meeting of the relics of St. Philip), near which pilgrims constantly crowded, going to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Later, the cross was erected at the outpost itself. Until 1922 – Maly Znamensky Lane (not to be confused with the existing lane of the same name), after the Church of the Sign of the Virgin, built in 1713.

Location

2nd Krestovsky Lane starts to the right of Prospect Mira opposite Rizhskaya Square, runs east along the Rizhskaya overpass, on the left there is an exit from the flyover from Suschevsky Val and exit to it in the direction of Sokolniki, and Malaya Pereyaslavskaya Street goes to the lane on the right. The lane ends on Bolshaya Pereyaslavskaya street at the place of its transition to Vodoprovodny lane opposite the railroad tracks of the Alekseevskaya connecting branch (the Kalanchevskaya – Rzhevskaya section passes here). The Church of the Icon of the Sign of the Mother of God in the Pereyaslavskaya Sloboda is located between the 2nd Krestovsky lane and the Riga flyover.
