Referred to both as Occupy Wall Road and the U.S. Day of Rage, the Sept. 17 protest attracted roughly 1,000 contributors to Lower Manhattan. New York City police anticipating the rally barricaded off much of Wall Road, and protesters instead arrange camp in Zuccotti Park (referred to as "Liberty Sq." by activists reclaiming the financial district park's original title, "Liberty Plaza Park"), which would develop into the movement's home base. Media experiences largely dismissed these actions as disjointed and the members as leftist radicals. Nonetheless, in the next weeks, the determined gathering of anarchists, college students, ex-hippies and hackers in Zuccotti Park gained extra followers and traction. And despite criticism in opposition to Occupy Wall Avenue's initial lack of focus and clout, its populist slogan -- "We're the ninety nine Percent" -- started to spread around the globe.
