As the cost of the supply chain for furniture increases, the distance from the factory to the consumer's home rises. To reduce shipping costs, furniture manufacturers try using lightweight materials and flat-pack strategies, which offload assembly tasks to the consumer. Unfortunately, no amount of shipping efficiency can compensate for the number of miles traveled.
