The Duchess of Cambridge has been awarded a payout of around €100,000 (_92,000, or $118,000) from a French magazine which published topless photographs of her.

The royal family sued Closer magazine after its French edition ran a series of photographs showing Kate and Prince William on holiday in Provence, southern France, in 2012, under the headline "Oh My God! The photos that will go round the world."

They were taken with a long-lens camera more than half a mile from the chateau the couple was staying in, which is owned by Viscount Linley, a nephew of the Queen.

The fines were levied on the editor and editorial director of Closer, according to French outlet 20 Minutes
.

A larger claim of around €1,500,000 from the publication itself appears to not yet have been resolved.

Closer was the first outlet to publish the photographs. Similar images appeared later in Swedish and Danish publications.

British media outlets were offered the photographs as well, but refused to print them.

The Irish Daily Star ran the images, but its editor later admitted that it was a mistake and stood down.
